Hansi Flick talks Espart, Yamal, Adeyemi, Gordon after Levante 2-4 Barcelona

FC Barcelona kept up their perfect start to the 2026-27 season as they bagged another win in La Liga, this time playing away against Levante. The Catalans won this game 4-2 courtesy of goals from Xavi Espart, Karim Adeyemi, and a brace from Lamine Yamal.

Hansi Flick was happy with another good performance and result from his team, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, expressed his emotions in the post-match presser. However, he also admitted that the performance could have been better in the second half:

“We had a great start, but we suffered a little in the second half. At 3-0, we should have had more control, and Levante played very well at home. The pitch was not very good; it was not as it should be.”

The German coach took responsibility for not making the required changes, which led to his team conceding a goal:

“The first goal we conceded was my fault. We wanted to make the change and Espart had asked for it, but we decided to wait. But I’m happy, we won and had a great start to the match.”

The Barcelona tactician also revealed why he had made several changes to the starting lineup:

“We also had to be mindful of the upcoming matches, Wednesday’s game and next Sunday’s, once again away from home.”

Flick admitted that the game was not easy, and highlighted how it is important to suffer in some situations:

“It wasn’t easy, although it looks easy… In the end, we have to suffer, and there are situations in which we have to do much better, but surviving in these situations is also an improvement.”

Further talking about the performance by Levante, the German coach said:

“At half-time, it wasn’t done, and that’s normal, and that’s what I told the players. They were playing at home and it’s normal that they want to win. They hadn’t lost at home in their last eight matches. They played a great game at home.”

Following this game, the Barcelona coach wanted his team to make improvements in some regards:

“What we are looking for is to improve certain things, such as positioning and some passes. That is what we work on.”

Flick assured that the players decide who takes set-piece duties:

“It’s ‘dela’ who takes the set pieces. The players decide, and whoever is in the best position at that moment takes it. I think that’s the best way. We are a team and everyone can take a penalty.”

The German coach also spoke highly of the forward Karim Adeyemi:

“He doesn’t surprise me. When he is focused, he is a fantastic player. I have known him for many years and I know what he can give us. He was especially fantastic for the fourth goal; that is what I want to see from him. Not being happy and relaxed, but always staying focused.”

While recognizing Anthony Gordon’s contributions, he also asked him to work on his scoring:

“As for Gordon, it’s very important for us that he keeps possession of the ball, but he is a forward and it is important that he scores. I’m happy and I appreciate what he gives us.”

Hansi Flick would definitely be annoyed with the two goals conceded by his team, but this was another good performance from Barcelona, who continue to enjoy a three-point cushion at the top of the La Liga table.
