Barcelona’s dream run in 2025 came to an abrupt end as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe last night.

It was yet another disappointing outing for Barça in La Liga, with the Catalans now extending their woeful tally to just one win in the last eight matches.

Speaking to the media after the game, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was not too happy with the result but said he is not too worried about the situation right now.

What Flick said after the game

Analysing Barcelona’s performance, Flick admitted that the team should have been more efficient against a defensive team like Getafe.

“I counted some of the chances we had, and usually with those chances we are able to score one or two more goals, but we didn’t, so we have to accept that. That’s the way it is,” he said.

“In the first half, we lacked speed in our game. The passing wasn’t fast enough, we didn’t switch the game to the other side as well as we should have. Also, the positioning of the players in the first half wasn’t good.

“We wanted to do better, and that’s what allowed them to get back into the game. I think in the second half we tried everything and in the end, we have to accept the result,” he added.

Flick went on to surmise that Barcelona did enough when it came to creating chances and were simply a goal away from snatching a victory.

“I think we created some chances. In the second half, we had some chances, and usually, you can take them. And when you score the second goal here, I think you get the three points.

“But it was a bit disappointing because I think in the first half we scored the first goal and that was exactly what we wanted, but we gave them the chance to get back into the game,” he said.

The German, though, accepted the result, stating, “I have to accept what happened today. We tried in every way.”

Flick was also asked about the key teachings the team can gather from today’s match and the subsequent result.

“For me, it’s more about the quality, the quality of the passes and the speed of the passes. That’s something we can learn from because we have the quality to do that.

“There are eight or nine players there, and it wasn’t easy to create chances, but we had some. Usually, that’s enough to get the three points,” he said.

Flick went on to discuss a few key events that transpired during the game, including the racist chants against Alejandro Balde.

The German expressed disappointment over the incident and condemned the act.

“There is no place for this in football or life. It’s unbelievable. In the times we are living in now, it’s completely wrong. Those who do this should stay at home, I think we should fight them, that’s the best thing.

But also the people around them can do something because it’s unfair. It’s not the respect we want to live with, I think everyone can do something,” he said.

Nevertheless, Barcelona’s draw with Getafe could severely impact their bid for the league title, especially now that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have an opportunity to widen the gap further.

Hansi Flick, though, is not worried about the title race and believes it is not over yet.

“Winning the league is the most difficult thing. But it’s not over yet, there are still some games to play. We will fight until the end. Today we got an extra point, but we dropped two points. However, we have to look forward and do better next time,” he pointed out.

As mentioned earlier, Barcelona have won just one of their last eight league matches, which is their worst run in 17 years.

However, Flick sees no reason to worry. Talking about the road ahead, the German expressed confidence in his team.

“I’m not worried. I’m aware of the situation, I know that we’ve dropped a lot of points in the last games, that’s not what we want, and we can do much better. But in the end, you can see that we’ve started the season really well, in this new year, and I’m happy about that.

“But now we have to show it. We have to show it in Lisbon because it’s a very important game. Winning three points there means we’re through to the next round. That’s what we want, but we have to play much better,” he concluded.
