Many fairytales feature a knight in shining armour, and this one is no exception. It is a story every Nerazzurri supporter knows by heart, a story forever etched into our memories: the story of Diego Milito, the man who delivered Inter’s historic and unforgettable Treble in 2010, and who celebrates his 47th birthday today.
A striker for the biggest moments, as clinical in front of goal as he was passionate in celebration, Milito gifted Inter a collection of unforgettable memories. Always in the right place at the right time, fierce and relentless, technical and powerful, il Principe decided all three defining matches of Inter’s Treble-winning campaign. A thunderous right-footed strike at the Stadio Olimpico to defeat Roma in the Coppa Italia Final, a perfectly timed run on the offside line followed by a precise finish at Siena on the final day of the league season, before rounding off his impeccable form with a brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the Santiago Bernabéu. Four iconic goals in Inter history that wrapped up an extraordinary season of 30 goals in 52 appearances.
The roar that greeted his goals felt different. San Siro erupted wildly in celebration, his wide blue eyes and the chant of “DIEGO – ALBERTO – MILITO” echoing around the stadium on the biggest nights. His goals in the Derby della Madonnina remain unforgettable, from the penalty in the 4-0 victory of August 2009 to the left-footed finish that opened the scoring in the 2-0 win of January 2010, and finally the hat-trick in the 4-2 triumph of May 2012.
During his Nerazzurri career, Milito made 171 appearances and scored 75 goals, winning one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia trophies, one Supercoppa Italiana, one Champions League and one Club World Cup. He also became the third striker to be inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame, following Meazza and Ronaldo.
An unforgettable story. A unique bond.
On his 47th birthday, everyone at Inter and the entire Nerazzurri family sends their warmest wishes to Diego Milito.
