League Two club Harrogate Town has lodged a full planning application, alongside Wetherby Steeplechase Committee Ltd, for a new training facility and clubhouse at Wetherby Racecourse.

The scheme includes new access, parking, landscaping, ancillary structures and floodlights on land currently used for parking.

The club said in a statement that the centre represents a major investment for the club and community, aiming to unite the men’s and women’s first teams, the academy and grassroots activity on a single site, with a vision for a central, accessible and sustainable hub focused on development, health, wellbeing and participation, and that Wetherby offers the space, access and sensitive integration identified during a six-year review of alternatives.

Harrogate Town has been searching for a suitable site for five years following promotion to the English Football League (EFL) in 2020. Its teams currently use various training facilities across the region.

Leeds City Council received the application at the end of November, following two pre-applications in 2024 and early 2025 and a summer consultation inviting supporters and other interested parties to share their views.

The plans can be viewed on the council’s public access portal, with comments due by Friday 23 January 2026.
