Leeds United loanee Harry Gray is attracting heavy scouting interest during his Rotherham stint, head coach Matt Hamshaw has revealed.
The 17-year-old joined in January for the second half of the campaign and has been pitched into a League One relegation fight. He scored twice in his first four outings, then went four without a goal, including Tuesday’s 1-0 loss at Bradford City.
“Leeds fans think a lot of him. I know there’s a lot of media hype around him and we must get 60 scout requests every week. He’s a big talent with a big future,” he told The Athletic.
“He plays as a ‘nine-and-a-half’, a 10, an 11, he’s a good footballer, isn’t he? We tried to give him a bit of licence to go into those pockets and get on it.”
“They’re the little bits he just needs to learn, but that’s why Leeds have obviously entrusted us with his development.”
Gray has 14 matches left to make his mark for the Millers at the New York Stadium. After four straight defeats, Rotherham sit in the League One relegation zone, three places and five points from safety.
