Manchester United’s pursuit of Harry Kane is fast turning into a losing battle. The English striker has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League in recent times, and for good reason too.

Kane is only 47 goals short of Alan Shearer’s 260 Premier League goals, which is the current record and has stood for two decades. While the player has publicly hinted that he is no longer bothered by a desire to claim the record all for himself, that has done little to settle the rumours.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, have struggled with striker issues for years and their decision to invest £74 million in Benjamin Sesko has yet to bear fruit. Others have failed before the Slovenian hitman in recent years, including Rasmus Hojlund, who left Old Trafford last summer initially on loan to Napoli before the move was made permanent.

Bayern ready to make massive change for Kane

Speaking recently to Abendzeitung, Rummenigge revealed that the Bavarians are willing to make a massive change to their renewal policy to accommodate Kane’s stay. He said: “I’m optimistic that they will find a good solution.”

“In the past, I would have said that players over 30 should generally only be offered one-year contracts. But there are exceptions when you are convinced by a player. And we are convinced by Harry. We mustn’t forget that (he) has only been injured once in three years.”

The German legend also backed Kane to win the Ballon d’Or this year, adding: “My Ballon d’Or winner is Harry Kane. Harry scored a total of 73 goals for Bayern and England last season – only Lionel Messi was more successful in a single year this millennium.”
