Harry Kane is a doubt to feature in Bayern Munich's trip to Aston Villa next week after suffering an ankle injury during Saturday's Bundesliga showdown with Bayer Leverkusen.

Robert Andrich's strike was cancelled out by Aleksandar Pavlovic as the points were shared between the two title hopefuls. However, fears emerged when Kane, who scored a career-high 44 goals in all competitions last season, was caught by Amine Adli late late on.

He was replaced by Thomas Muller and now faces a race to be fit in time for the Champions League on Wednesday, though the club's early assessment of the injury is positive.

Manager Vincent Kompany said after the game: "I'm not a doctor, but I hope it's nothing serious. It's still early to say. Hopefully he'll be fit for Wednesday."

A statement from Bayern reads: "Harry Kane took a painful knock to his ankle in Bayern's Bundesliga game at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Examinations by the club's medical unit on Sunday determined a positive development. Kane will continue to receive appropriate treatment."

Kane will hope the knock doesn't keep him out of England duty next month. The Three Lions take on Greece and Finland in the Nations League as they look to build on the two wins they earned under interim manager Lee Carsley earlier in September.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker made his 100th appearance for his country during the last international break, extending his record as the men's all-time leading goalscorer with two strikes against Finland. He now sits on 68, 15 clear of former record holder Wayne Rooney.

He has enjoyed an excellent start of the 2024/25 campaign as he aims to win a first team trophy in his career, scoring ten goals in all competitions so far. Bayern sit at the top of the Bundesliga table and smashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in their first Champions League outing of the campaign. Kane scored four goals in that game.
