Kane has just celebrated 10 years since his England debut with back-to-back goals in Thomas Tuchel’s first two games in charge against Albania and Latvia.

Those strikes extended his record goals tally for England to 71 and his appearance against Latvia was his 105th for his country, moving him level with Billy Wright and joint-ninth in England’s all-time list of most-capped players.

Kane, 31, has no plans to call time on England to prolong his club career and needs only 21 more caps to move ahead of Shilton’s 125 England appearances.

“I think so,” Kane replied, when asked whether claiming the record for himself is attainable.

“It’s definitely there. I’ve made it clear I want to play for England as long as possible.

“The caps come round quick. Each camp comes round and before you know it you’re on another few, another five.

“Of course, leading up to the World Cup, there are plenty of games before then and hopefully eight games in that tournament.

“We’ll have to wait and see. Those things come as you work hard and as you keep being part of the team. To get 105 is special already. For sure, I want to a few more.”

Bayern Munich striker Kane added: “It’s 10 years this week since I played for England. It’s been a great journey, a lot of ups, a lot of downs.

“We’ve been extremely close and it’s been a pleasure to be a part of that.

“Now it’s a new era, a new chapter and I’m even more excited to hopefully have more years here and get far in tournaments and have those special moments in this country and try to give the fans what we all so desperately want, which is to win a major trophy.

“That opportunity excites not just me but I think the team, the boss and everyone here as well.”

Kane was asked what has felt different about the England experience since Tuchel took over as manager.

“I spoke before in the press conference earlier in the week, I think his energy, his enthusiasm,” Kane said.

“He’s very much involved in the squad, on the training pitch but also outside of the pitch as well, whether it’s watching other games in the lounge area or being around the boys a bit more.

“He wants to have the involvement, wants to see the players all the time - how they are, how they are reacting.

“Overall a really positive camp. We saw more signs out there of what he wants and I think that will just grow and grow as the camps go [on].”
