Manchester United’s disastrous defeat to Brentford last week brought about a few changes for Saturday’s game against Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Back came Casemiro into the middle of the park, while Amad returned to start on the right. Interestingly, Ruben Amorim also recalled Leny Yoro in place of Harry Maguire.

The England international, who had won the head coach over last term and even earned a new deal, has started only twice in the Premier League this season, and with his contract up next summer, question marks regarding his future remain.

Maguire’s future up in the air

The Red Devils refused to sell him to interested suitors this summer, but plenty of outlets have claimed that INEOS will not be extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond the current season.

And now, The Daily Star has claimed United’s current stance has attracted Saudi Pro League sides to the table with Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq ready to pounce on the soon-to-be free agent.

The former club captain will be free to open contract talks with foreign clubs post-January, and it will be interesting to see how all of this ultimately pans out.

“Harry Maguire could be set for a surprising switch to the Saudi Pro League. The Manchester United defender’s contract expires in June, and he has caught the attention of Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq.

Reunion on the cards

“The England centre-back will be free to negotiate with other clubs when we hit January 1. If he leaves United on a free transfer next summer, Maguire could demand substantial wages should he opt to join the Pro-League.

“It’s believed that United bosses are unlikely to offer Maguire a new contract this summer to keep him at Old Trafford.”

A move to Al-Nassr would see the centre-back reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo, and given it is likely to be his last contract, it could potentially be a very lucrative one.

In the past, Harry Maguire had spoken of his desire to stay, but the ball remains in Amorim and INEOS’ court. If they decide he is not good enough to start regularly, moving him on would make the most sense.

And links with Jarrad Branthwaite have re-emerged, lending credence to the above links.
