Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca praised Marc Guiu for his hat-trick performance in a dominating 5-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in the Europa Conference League.
The Spanish striker has had a tough start to his time in London, simply owing to the fact that the competition ahead of him is so fierce. Maresca though, said Guiu is doing the right things. “With Marc the problem is that sometimes we forget the age. He’s already scored five or six in this competition. He’s taking his chance and he knows that with Nico and Cristo (Nkunku) there, it’s not easy for him.”
The 18-year-old has struggled for game time, but has made an impact when been called upon. And with his help, Chelsea are now six wins from six in the competition and can think about the next round.
But Maresca doesn’t want his side to get ahead of themselves: “Now that we are in the next round we have to focus on that. Thinking to play the final or to win this competition when there is still five or six games to go is not the right thing.”
One player who has had an incredibly impressive season for Chelsea, and even found some goalscoring form with two goals in his last two games, is Marc Cucurella.
“With Marc, it’s about understanding the position and understanding the game. In the previous games when he was playing attacking midfielder or winger he was also doing very well. All of the players are starting to understand where they have to be to receive the ball.”
Things are looking good for the Blues, and they have a favourable run of fixtures in all competitions, starting with Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
