Stoke City loanee Divin Mubama hit his first professional hat-trick last weekend — and joined a select group of players to record four goal involvements in a single game this season.

Having impressed in Manchester City’s youth setup last season, and scored for the Cityzens in the FA Cup, Mubama has had to transition to the Championship this term. His five-star showing in Stoke’s 5-1 victory over Bristol City at the Bet365 Stadium last weekend underlined his growing potential.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring after just four minutes with a poacher’s finish, then doubled his tally soon after following a mistake from visiting goalkeeper Radek Vitek. Mubama later turned provider, setting up Million Manhoef’s superb left-footed strike to send the Potters into half-time three goals to the good.

After Junior Tchamadeu added a fourth with a brilliant solo effort, Mubama completed his hat-trick on 67 minutes with a thumping finish — rendering Mark Sykes’ late header a mere consolation for Bristol City.

His standout display means he joins an exclusive club of players across England’s top four divisions to produce four direct goal involvements in one match this season. Interestingly, one of the quartet is also of interest to Stoke fans: young prospect Emre Tezgel currently impressing on loan at League Two Crewe Alexandra.

Brighton’s Diego Gomez remains the only player in The 92 to score four times in a single game this season — netting all four in a 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley — while Accrington’s Paddy Madden is the only other player to feature in four league goals in one outing.
