Have Crystal Palace already found their Guehi replacement?

Crystal Palace pulled the plug on Marc Guehi’s exit in the summer, with a deadline day transfer to Liverpool collapsing.

The Eagles had agreed to sell their captain to Liverpool for a fee of £35m, but the failure to sign a replacement in time saw the deal fall through.

Liverpool are expected to return with Guehi a free agent in the summer, while a January move cannot be ruled out given the champion’s recent struggles. There’s rival interest from Europe too, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich linked.

Palace, however, may just have unearthed the right profile to replace the club captain in Jaydee Canvot.

The 19-year-old signed for Palace on September 1st from Toulouse and marked his full Premier League debut with an accomplished performance this weekend.

Canvot racked up eight clearances, blocked two shots, and completed 91.3% of his passes during the goalless draw with rivals Brighton.

His seamless step into the side in place of the injured Guehi is an encouraging sign for Oliver Glasner, though the Palace boss will not want to place unneeded pressure on the young defender.

However, the South Londoners can be pleased with his full league debut and another example of their impressive recent recruitment.
