Raphinha was sold by Leeds United to Barcelona in the summer of 2022
It was reported by Sky Sports that the winger earned the Whites an initial £49 million up front fee, with an additional add-ons package that could take the signing up to £55 million.
Raphinha spent two seasons with the Yorkshire outfit after his move from French side Rennes, playing 65 times in the Premier League in that period.
The forward contributed 17 goals and 12 assists, with Leeds finishing ninth and 17th in those campaigns, before he was sold to the Catalan club.
Here we look at whether the Whites have a sell-on clause for Raphinha following his impressive run of form in Hansi Flick’s side…
It has been reported by Football Insider that Leeds do not have a sell-on clause for Raphinha as part of the deal to sell him in 2022.
It was claimed that it is a regret at Elland Road that a clause was never inserted into the £55 million move, with the Brazilian enjoying a strong spell of form this season.
The 28-year-old’s first two campaigns at the Nou Camp were solid, if unspectacular, which led to some speculation over his future at the club.
It was reported by Fichajes in March that Manchester United are lining up a move to sign Raphinha this summer, although his strong performances makes it unlikely he will be sold now.
He has been a standout player in both La Liga, as well as the Champions League, with Barcelona competing to win both competitions.
Flick’s side earned a comfortable 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their quarter final tie, with Raphinha providing the opening goal, and the team are also four points clear at the top of the Spanish first division table.
While Leeds failed to insert a sell-on clause in the deal for Raphinha three years ago, which could cost them if the player moves on this summer, they could yet still net a big sum from Barcelona for the deal soon.
It has been reported by Teamtalk that Barcelona will have to pay up to £10 million to Leeds if the forward achieves the Ballon D’or this season.
Raphinha will surely be in the mix given his outstanding form in Flick’s team, with the forward contributing an impressive 13 goals and eight assists in the league, as well as 12 goals and seven assists in the Champions League.
He is likely to face competition from the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Mo Salah and even Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, so this fee is far from guaranteed at this stage.
How Barcelona fare in the Champions League will play a role in determining who comes away with football’s top individual honour this year, with Manchester City's Rodri having won the award in 2024.
