Dundee beat Dundee United 1-0 at Tannadice as Ashley Hay's strike on the stroke of half time sealed a third league win in a row and dropped the hosts from sixth to seventh.

Early on, United forced Jon McCracken into action, with Krisztián Keresztes' header and a Max Watters effort both saved by the goalkeeper.

In the 45th minute, Ashley Hay drove a right-footed shot from the right side of the box into the bottom left corner.

After the restart, United pressed for an equaliser. Watters and Keresztes missed presentable chances and Luca Stephenson was denied from close range, while Dave Richards had to save from Hay as Dundee threatened a second.

United registered 22 attempts and eight corners, with 54.7% of the ball. Dundee cleared 58 times, and McCracken made five saves to preserve the points.

Dundee stay ninth. United visit Celtic next. Dundee host Hearts next.
