Has future Liverpool centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (20) dropped a hint regarding Ibrahima Konaté’s (27) future on Merseyside? The Stade Rennais Academy graduate will join Arne Slot’s Reds in the summer after both clubs reached a €72m agreement during the winter transfer window. Jacquet will rejuvenate Liverpool’s backline considering club captain Virgil van Dijk will turn 35 in July, and that the Netherlands captain’s Liverpool contract expires in 2027.

At Liverpool, apart from the fact that Van Dijk is nearing the end of his career, training with him is going to be huge“, Jacquet said to Ouest-France.He’s going to teach me so much.

Konaté’s contractual situation is a more pressing one. The former RB Leipzig centre-back might just have played his final game with the Reds during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford, as his contract expires in June, before Liverpool’s start to the pre-season, when Jacquet will report back to Kirkby.

However, Jacquet understands that Konaté will still be there when that times comes, hinting at the France international’s extended stay on Merseyside. “There’s also Ibou Konaté, who can help me settle in. Training with guys like that, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
