Following their 3-0 victory over Osasuna in their last league game, which came right after the end of the March international break, FC Barcelona are now set to face their neighbours, Girona, in La Liga.
This match is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Montjuic, a day after Real Madrid face Leganes. The Blaugrana side is currently three points ahead of the Merengues, thus, every game will be important from here.
Thus, Hansi Flick will be particularly unhappy with the injury suffered by Dani Olmo in the game against Osasuna. The Spaniard is set to miss three weeks of action with this physical problem.
Fortunately, Gavi is returning to his best physical level just at the same time, and he will be available as one of the players to cover both Olmo and Casado, as the latter is also injured and is expected to return to action only at the very end of the season.
So far this season, Gavi has played mostly as an attacking midfielder. His performance when Flick played him as a pivot was not really convincing. But as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Barcelona coach believed the young midfielder can play in both these positions well, as he answered questions in his press conference ahead of the game against Girona.
The German tactician highlighted Gavi’s ability to play in several positions:
“His best position is as a 6 or an 8, but he can play in multiple positions. Against Osasuna, he played to press the opponent well—we’ll see what we do tomorrow. I’m very happy with his performance as a 6. He controlled the ball very well in the second half and did a great job.”
Gavi really put in quite a good performance against Osasuna, but it remains to be seen where he will play in the upcoming game against Girona. Flick’s comments do not really provide many hints in this regard, but keeping in view how he has played this season, he once again looks destined to play as an attacking midfielder.
