Enzo Maresca announced in his press conference today that Cole Palmer was going to miss significantly more time with his ongoing groin injury – the manager predicted six weeks.

To get more information on the problem, we checked out the London is Blue podcast for more details from the well connected Matt Law on Palmer’s status:
“They’ve clearly taken the decision with Cole now to give him a proper rest,” Law said.
“Because the message I keep getting back from people at the club is that if they really wanted to play him, or he really wanted to play he could. He could physically play, but you’d be taking some enormous risks in terms of then losing him for a very long time,” Law said.
“So they’re trying to avoid surgery, they’re trying to rest him for as long as possible so that when he comes back he comes back properly fit rather than trying to patch him up. So that’s what’s going on. In terms of what he will miss, I’d say it’s more likely that he’s not going to play in this block of games.”
It would be madness, as Law says, to take any risks. Better to have no Palmer even until January, than have him for games here and there and a bad issue becoming critical and career-affecting.
You can see them discussing the subject in the clip embedded here:
We’ve already considered the games that Palmer could miss, assuming he’s out for the six weeks that Enzo Maresca predicted. They’re not the hardest fixtures – but that’s all the more reason to want a player like Palmer to help us take down some low blocks.
Palmer isn’t the only one out either – we predicted the Blues XI for the game here as Enzo Maresca is forced into some changes across the board.
