It’s not really clear what Man City’s plan is right now.
We all expected them to bounce back after a horrific first half to last season, but they still seem to be struggling to find top gear. After a menacing performance on the opening weekend of the season, they’ve slumped back to some familiar problems.
One of their issues has been their signings – they’ve consistently bought great players, but not necessarily ones you’d think of in a Pep Guardiola team.

A great example is Omar Marmoush. We think he’d be great for Chelsea, but his style isn’t really what you’d associate with a traditional Guardiola winger. The Egypt star had some comments recently which did interest us, where he spoke about his toughest opponent in the Premier League since arriving in January:
“Until now, it was Reece James. It was my first Premier League game. He’s fast, strong and has quality on the ball. He gave me a tough time. I haven’t played much in the Premier League yet, but I’ll say James for now.”
James has had a good start to the season for Chelsea, although he continues to be used very carefully by Enzo Maresca. The right back has started just once, and seemed to be left out of the team last week because the Italian coach knew he was going to start for England this week against Andorra.
He did that and played 68 minutes for the Three Lions and was one of their better performers as they beat Andorra. His place in Thomas Tuchel’s England team seems secure at the World Cup next summer if he can stay fit.
Who knows – maybe he will come up against Marmoush in that tournament?
