The Brazilian has thus far scored 16 goals and provided his teammates with four assists. He exploits have proven decisive for the Wanderers who are on the cusp of mathematically avoiding the drop.

But after two and a half years at the Molineux, many believe it is past time for the sensational forward to pursue greener pastures, and one of his suggested destinations is Man Utd.

Cunha already inflicted damage on the Red Devils in their first meeting this season, and he’ll be looking to replicate his feats when the two sides clash heads at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In his pre-match press conference, Amorim only had words of praise for Wolves who are managed by his compatriot Vitor Pereira. He also lauded the quality at the club, while particularly praising Cunha.

“I think Pereira is doing a fantastic job. He’s playing 3-4-3,” said the Man Utd boss with a smile on his face, as this happens to be his favourite formation as well.

“He’s doing quite well in changing some players. He has real quality players, Cunha, all these guys, they have real quality, they are fresh, so we know it’s going to be a tough match and we’re going to need a lot from our supporters.”

Cunha’s mention certainly caught the attention of the reporters present at the conference in Carrington. But when asked to elaborate, Amorim shrugged off all transfer talk, explaining that the Brazilian’s name popped into his mind due to his recent exploits.

“I just gave the example because I remembered about Matheus scoring a lot of goals, so it’s just that.”

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Man Utd could have the upper hand in the race for Cunha, as Arsenal are more interested in recruiting Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
