After his first season at FC Barcelona, in which he became the top scorer of La Liga and won the Pichichi, Robert Lewandowski had a rather forgettable second season, which was barren of any team or individual titles for the Pole.

However, Lewandowski has started the 2024-25 season in great form and has already scored three goals in two La Liga matches. He scored a brace in the first match against Valencia, and then also scored the winning goal against Athletic Club after the visitors had levelled the scores in the first half.

Speaking after this game, Hansi Flick praised several players, and Robert Lewandowski was, unsurprisingly, one of these players. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German tactician recalled his long association with the Pole as he highlighted his best skills as a striker:

“I know him very well, I’ve worked with him for a long time. He’s one hundred percent physically fit, and when he’s on the ball, he’s very good. He presses with the rest of the team and with the forwards, and he contributes a lot in attacking situations. In the first half, he could have scored one or two goals. He’s a goal hunter, a natural scorer, and his goal gave us three points and the victory.”

At 36 years of age, there are some doubts about Lewandowski’s ability to keep on playing at such a high level in the coming years. However, Flick explained why this will not be too difficult for the €15m-rated Polish ace:

“Robert is very professional, he takes his physical condition very seriously—it’s about the body, not the age. When he has a positive mindset and is in shape, he gives us a lot because he knows how to score and manage pressure, and you could see in the second half that we needed a goal after they equalized.”

“We needed a second goal, he had his chance, and he took it. He’s a great player with a successful career spanning many years.”

There is no doubt that with all his experience and skills, Lewandowski can be the difference maker for Barcelona this season. Cules will be hoping he continues with the form that he has shown up to now in this season and brings an end to his career at the apex of football in a memorable fashion.
