Bristol City seem to be set for another season in the midtable reaches of the Championship.

While their start to this season has shown glimpses of promise, defeats to teams like Burnley and Sheffield United highlight the gap that still exists between them and a genuine challenge for the top six.

This will be disappointing given that they are now in their tenth consecutive season in the division, and have still yet to finish higher than eighth.

However, this could be resurrected with a strong January window, where outgoings will be as likely as incomings. One potential departure is that of Harry Cornick, who has struggled for gametime since Liam Manning's arrival.

This season he has made just one appearance in the EFL Cup, with no minutes in the Championship, despite being named on the bench numerous times. Therefore, it seems likely he will move on, but to gain a BS3 point of view on the topic, we spoke to FLW's Robins pundit, James Skinner.

Cornick backed to depart Ashton Gate

Posed the question of whether Bristol City should let Harry Cornick go in January, Skinner said: "Harry Cornick is a tricky one as he seems like a decent professional and a good lad.

"He's been on the bench a few times this season, but his gametime is non-existent as I don't recall seeing him on the pitch at all this season.

"I would imagine it would get to the point where he decides he needs to go elsewhere to get regular first-team football, which you can't blame him for.

"With our striking options this season, you can see why he is on the bench, as if an injury occurs he will come on and give it his all.

Speaking about a permanent or temporary departure, Skinner added: "I think it would be good for him to go out on loan in January, but if not, a permanent transfer would be fine. I can imagine he will be desperate for first-team football and I can't see it happening too much at Bristol City for him.

"If he was to go, he would depart with everyone's best wishes at the club."

Harry Cornick's Bristol City move hasn't worked

Approaching his two-year anniversary at Ashton Gate, it would be an understatement to say Cornick has been a disappointing signing.

Having joined from Luton Town on deadline day in January 2023, it was expected he would come in and add goals to the team, with the former Yeovil Town man stating he would "get the fans out of their seats."

Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out to date, as he has netted just four goals in all competitions.

With Liam Manning having a range of options at his disposal, now seems like an ideal time to cash in on Cornick, especially with 18 months remaining on his contract.

A move to League One or Two would make sense for Cornick as he looks to display the promise he showed early in his career.

Geographically, you would think a team like Bristol Rovers or Swindon Town would show a keen interest and the experience he could bring would be a benefit for any team in the divisions below.

At 29, his career ha stalled and looking for an avenue out of Ashton Gate is best for Harry Cornick.
