Filipe Morais has now entered the world of football club ownership

Former Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City winger, Filipe Morais, has become one of European football's latest owners, having taken control of obscure Portuguese side, GD Alcochetense.

Now 40, the man who started his career at Chelsea during the West London side's golden era under former owner, Roman Abramovich, will be hoping his finances kickstart a bright era for the club based near Lisbon.

Morais very much remains a cult figure at both the Toughsheet Community Stadium and Valley Parade for his exploits for Bolton and Bradford in the mid-to-late 2010s, even though the former are currently positioned higher after their promotion from League One to the Championship last season, in which Steven Schumacher's side defeated Graham Alexander's men in the play-off semi-finals.

Due to his aforementioned status, it is no surprise that the sharing of his latest career move has generated plenty of support from those in Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

Morais turned out for seven current EFL sides in his career, but is undoubtedly best known for his time at Bradford and Bolton respectively.

During his spell with the Bantams, Phil Parkinson's side reached the FA Cup quarter-final in the 2014/15 season.

Throughout said run, Morais netted against eventual Premier League champions, Chelsea, in a famous 4-2 comeback win at Stamford Bridge in the fourth round, before reuniting with the current Wrexham boss in January 2017 as Bolton won promotion from League One.

Having retired in 2021 after a brief spell at Grimsby Town, the Portuguese youth international, who made over 300 EFL appearances, has now become club president at the Estadio Antonio Almeida, with Alcochetense currently 10th in Group D of the Campeonato De Portugal.

Informing followers of this milestone, Morais wrote on X: "I am incredibly proud to announce my acquisition of a majority shareholding in

@gdafutebolsad and my appointment as President."

"A long-term project, an ambitious vision and a very special responsibility. Many thanks in advance for all of your support," he added.

Naturally, there have been plenty of well-wishes coming Morais' way after his fresh social media announcement.

One Bradford supporter urged his club's former winger: "Now set them up with an X account for English fans."

A follower of the Whites then responded: "I’m a @gdafutebolsad fan now!"

Another ex-EFL stalwart, Keanu Marsh-Brown, was also in the comments of Morais' post, stating: "Top player and even better person this next chapter for you I wish you the best of luck brother."

Given the location of Alcochete as a picturesque coastal village, another Bantams fan told the former Valley Parade ace: "Preseason game next year Filip,plenty of Bradford fans would come over for sure!!"

Even though Morais now has more important aspects of football to focus on, as he looks to progress Alcochetense up the Portuguese system, the love he has received from Bolton and Bradford fans will certainly be reciprocated.

The Trotters have endured a mixed start to their first season at Championship level since 2018, but are in much stronger financial hands than when Morais was employed by the club.

Bradford, meanwhile, are currently top of the third tier as they look to build on last season's play-off heartbreak, although it remains to be seen whether the West Yorkshire side can continue their momentum in the coming weeks, with it being revealed that Graham Alexander has been given permission to speak to his former club, Preston North End, who are currently managerless after dismissing Paul Heckingbottom.
