For months, Givairo Read was considered a top candidate for FC Bayern. After a move last winter fell through due to injuries, the Dutch U-21 national team player could now be heading to Serie A.

FC Bayern had been actively pursuing Givairo Read for quite some time. At one point, the Munich club was even on the verge of signing the right back from Feyenoord Rotterdam. But the transfer ultimately fell through—and now another top club appears to be looking to secure the talented player’s services.

As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, AS Roma has submitted an official offer to Feyenoord for Read. According to the report, the Italians are offering around 25 million euros for the 20-year-old. Negotiations between the two clubs are currently underway. Nottingham Forest is also continuing to pursue the Dutch player after Feyenoord has already rejected two offers.

Bayern had already come very close

Feyenoord’s former sporting director, Dennis te Kloese, recently confirmed that FC Bayern had shown great interest in Read. According to him, the Munich club worked intensively on a transfer last winter. The plan was to sign Read immediately and leave him in Rotterdam on loan until the end of the season.

However, the deal fell through after the right back suffered two injuries. According to te Kloese, Bayern then decided to wait and see and continue monitoring his progress.

Read was once again linked to the German record champions this summer. Recently, however, it had become apparent that the right side of defense was no longer a priority for Munich. FCB sporting director Max Eberl even hinted recently that Bayern would likely not sign any further new players.

With AS Roma’s move, the FC Bayern chapter for Read could now be closed for good. Should the Italians reach a transfer agreement with Feyenoord, one of Europe’s most promising right-backs would play in Serie A rather than the Bundesliga in the future.
