Arsenal defender William Saliba is backing Viktor Gyokeres to keep scoring after netting in the win over Chelsea.
The Swedish forward had been on a run of one goal in his last ten games before the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win over Chelsea.
But he scored his side’s second in the 3-2 win over their London rivals and speaking about Gyokeres after the game, Saliba said: “He’s strong. He’s fast. When he has the opportunity to score, he scores.
“I know his quality because I played against him last season. It was so tough to play against him. I’m sure that he will keep scoring. Sometimes, when you’re a number nine, you have a period where you’re not scoring. But I’m not worried about him, and I think he will score.”
The victory at Stamford Bridge puts Arsenal in control of the tie ahead of the return leg at the Emirates Stadium.
“Of course, when we play against Chelsea, it’s always a big fight,” Saliba said, reflecting on the win. We want to win every chance because they have a strong team as well.
“Today, we dominated them. Of course, we are not so happy because we conceded two goals. We don’t like when we concede goals like this. We will work on it.”
One of the star performers for Mikel Arteta was midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who scored a stunning solo goal to make it 3-1.
And Saliba was full of praise for the Spaniard: “He’s so good. We could see it in the first training session he had with us. We could see that he’s a top player.
“He’s never under pressure with the ball, without the ball as well. He’s so good and he brings us a lot of calmness with the ball and a lot of composure. We can see that he can score as well. It’s good for him and for us. He has to keep going like this because he’s a wonderful player.”
