Harvey Elliott’s start to the season under Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, has been hit by misfortune with the 21-year-old set for a spell on the sidelines with a fractured foot.

Slot had high hopes for Elliott, who impressed during pre-season. The England U21 international was expected to benefit from valuable game time during the international break but it is believed Elliott will now be sidelined until late October.

Arne Slot shared his disappointment over the situation: “It’s a big blow for Harvey and for us. He did really well in pre-season, and if he had stayed fit, he would have played a lot. But now, it’s an opportunity for someone else to step up. It’s frustrating, but at this stage of the season, availability is crucial.”

With Liverpool’s packed schedule across multiple competitions, the pressure is on for players to remain fit and adaptable. Slot, known for his intense and fast-paced playing style, understands that the squad will need to rotate frequently to cope with the demands ahead.

Slot added: “But now he isn’t [fit] and that also gives the chance to someone else. So it is, first and foremost, a blow for himself, and then also for us because I think availability is important in the stage of the season when we play seven games in 22 days, I think. So, it’s blow for the both of us but he will work as hard as always to come back in the best possible way.”

Alexis Mac Allister suffered an issue with his abductor while on international duty with Argentina but Slot is hoping he will be fit for the clash with Nottingham Forest: “He was out in the last game but he trained with us yesterday. I’m expecting Macca to be with us tomorrow.”
