Daniel Farke has revealed that Leeds winger Daniel James is set to miss at least two months with a hamstring injury in a big blow for his side.

Farke hopes the Welshman will not require surgery but doing so would mean he could be out for an even longer period.

“His hamstring tendon is injured and (how long) he will be out for, it depends on if he needs the surgery or not, but as it stands it looks like he could do it in the conservative way (without surgery) but even on the conservative way it means he will probably miss the next eight weeks,” the Leeds boss said.

“As it stands we have to expect that he’s out for the next two months at least. It could be worse with surgery but we hope that it’s just this eight weeks.

“It’s tough. Everyone knows how much I love Daniel James. Perhaps it’s a bit exaggerating to say he was first on the team sheet but it’s a bit like this.

“He started the season, although he was missing for the end of last season and also major parts of pre-season.

“Now another injury now. He has fought so hard to be back in his best shape and we were extra careful with him to bring him back into the starting line-up and gave him more and more minutes and (we felt) Man City is the time he is physically ready to play longer than just 30 minutes.

“He has worked so much in the last weeks to be back in his best shape. He was so motivated. I’ve never seen him so disciplined in terms of preparation for training, after training, nutrition. He was on the path to be back to his best and of course it was important for the upcoming games and weeks but sometimes you can’t choose.

“Of course he was heartbroken when we got this assessment but there are worse things in life and you can also have worse injuries. I will allow him one or two days to be down and then it’s to work hard in the rehab. We need him back as soon as possible and as quick as possible.”

In more positive news, Farke says Anton Stach is back in contention for the game against Chelsea following concussion protocols.

“Good news with Anton since Sunday,” Farke said.

“He’s back in team training and definitely also available for this game which is definitely good news.”
