Heerenveen rise into eighth as Brouwers and Overeem strike

Heerenveen beat Excelsior 2-1 at Stadion Woudestein to rise from ninth to eighth in the Eredivisie.
Luuk Brouwers opened the scoring in the 38th minute, finishing from the left after Lasse Nordas set him up on the break. After the restart, Joris Overeem doubled the lead from close range (67.).
A handball by Overeem then gifted the hosts a lifeline, and Noah Naujoks converted from the spot (74.).
Excelsior registered 21 attempts, with five on target. Heerenveen made 49 clearances, and goalkeeper Bernt Klaverboer produced four saves.
Late on, substitute Miliano Jonathans was forced off injured and Mike Van Duinen came on.
Excelsior remain 15th. Next, Excelsior visit Feyenoord. Heerenveen host Telstar next.
