Relegated Heidenheim host newly-promoted Osnabrück on Saturday afternoon as both begin their 2. Bundesliga campaigns, their first second-tier game in years.
According to BuLi News, Frank Schmidt’s side were relegated from the Bundesliga after a three-year spell that included a Europa Conference League campaign, while Osnabrück won 3. Liga last term.
Heidenheim have largely kept last season’s core, aside from loan returns, and have made only four summer signings. By contrast, Osnabrück have added 2. Bundesliga experience and have Timo Schulz, formerly of St. Pauli and Köln, at the helm.
The clubs last met competitively in 2021, when Heidenheim won 2-1 to extend their unbeaten run in the fixture to four. Heidenheim are unbeaten at home against Osnabrück since a 3-1 defeat in the 2011/12 3. Liga.
Team news sees Heidenheim without Mikkel Kaufmann and Leart Paqarda, both sidelined after last season’s injuries. Osnabrück’s new striker Jonathan Wensing is also unavailable due to a thigh injury.
