Union Berlin might head into the new calendar year with a new head-coach leading the team. The German capital city's Köpenick side have thus far been underwhelming under trainer Bo Svensson, winning only four of 15 league fixtures and exiting the German cup in embarrassing fashion against third tier side DSC Arminia Bielefeld. Saturday's league defeat against SV Werder Bremen served as Svensson's ninth consecutive match without a win.

"We'll have to let this sink in," FCU managing director Horst Heldt noted in his post-match remarks. "I can't comment on it so shortly after the game. Overall, he [Svensson] enjoys a great deal of trust, but I believe we'll have to take another look at the games and evaluate."

“We face a tough start in January," Svensson continued, "We have to turn things around, and we're in a position to do that. Now it's up to everyone. First and foremost, the team."
