HLN are reporting that Hendrik van Crombrugge is having a medical ahead of a move to Genk for around €1.3m, although this could rise to €1.95m. The once capped Belgian international lost his starting place at the Mauves to Bart Verbruggen, who has since left to join Brighton. Rather than regain his place as the number one, Anderlecht wanted to move their former captain on due to his significant wages. Anderlecht are set to sign Maxime Dupé on a free from Toulouse to become their new number one.
Van Crombrugge will now compete with Belgian youth international Maarten Vandevoordt for the starting spot in Genk. The latter is set to join RB Leipzig next season.
30-year-old van Crombrugge began his career at Standard Liege, but failed to make an appearance for the side. After moving to Sint-Truiden, he only made one first team appearance in two years. The goalkeeper’s breakout seasons came during his time at Eupen, who he joined for free in 2013. After 182 appearances for the Pandas, Anderlecht signed him in 2019. He has made 120 appearances for Anderlecht and was even their captain for a period of time.
