Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement with Valencia over the signing of defender Cristhian Mosquera for an initial fee of €15m.

The Gunners have reached terms with the Spanish side over the transfer of the 21-year-old. Mosquera has just 12 months to run on his contract at Valencia and the club have reluctantly accepted an offer from Arsenal. The deal is worth an initial €15m (£13m) plus add-ons.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the agreement and that the total package of the transfer will be under €20m (£17.3m).

Mosquera’s arrival looks to be a shrewd signing for the North Londoners as Mikel Arteta sought to add defensive depth.

Comfortable at centre-back or right-back, the Spain u-21 international will arrive to provide cover for William Saliba.

Mosquera has emerged as one of the most promising defenders in La Liga in recent campaigns.

Last season, he was a key part of Valencia’s climb away from the relegation places and ended the 2024/25 with the seventh-most clearances in the division. He also had the fourth-best tackle success rate against opposition dribblers, at 77.5%.

The centre-back is set to become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following deals for Kepa Arrizablaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

Deals have also been agreed to sign Noni Madueke from Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres for a combined fee of around £107m.

Mosquera’s medical will take place this week with Arsenal hoping to have the defender available for the pre-season friendly with AC Milan on July 23rd.
