Manchester City and Fenerbahce have reached a full verbal agreement over a deal for Brazil goalkeeper Ederson, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Ederson is into the final year of his current Manchester City deal and has wanted a new challenge in recent seasons, having failed to engineer a move to Saudi Arabia last summer owing to City’s high valuation of the 31-year-old.
The former Benfica man was named on the bench for City’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, with James Trafford impressing in net a week on from committing an error that directly led to Tottenham’s second in their 2-0 triumph at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City did not wish to sell Ederson earlier in the window, with Pep Guardiola considering the Brazilian part of his plans for the 2025-26 campaign. However, City identified Gianluigi Donnarumma and reached a contractual agreement with the 26-year-old as a replacement for Ederson.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on Monday morning that Fenerbahce have struck a total verbal agreement to sign Ederson from Manchester City on deadline day of the summer transfer window, with a fee lying in the region of €13-14 million.
Ederson is expected to fly to Turkey on Monday and complete medical duties before the transfer is made official, which is likely to set the Gianluigi Donnarumma domino in motion at the Etihad Stadium.
City are long understood to have an agreement on personal terms in place with the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, who has fallen out of favour with club bosses at the Parc des Princes and is reported to be keen to join Manchester City.
Negotiations between Manchester City and PSG are believed to have progressed in recent weeks, with City pushing towards a lower fee compared to the Parisiens, with Donnarumma into the final year of his current contract at the Parc des Princes.
When Trafford re-joined Manchester City from Burnley for £27 million in July, Guardiola maintained that Ederson would remain the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and that the former would push the Brazil international for the number one spot.
However, Ederson has wanted a new challenge for some time and with Fenerbahce agreeing a deal for the Manchester City man, it remains to be seen how the final day of the transfer window progresses.
Manchester City are likely to only allow Ederson to fly to Turkey and complete a transfer if and when they secure a deal for Donnarumma, with a total agreement yet to be reached between the 2023 treble winners and PSG.
Stefan Ortega Moreno is also expected to leave Manchester City on a permanent basis on deadline day, with the 32-year-old surplus to requirements following Trafford’s return to Etihad Stadium in the summer.
