Italian Serie A club Fiorentina have reached a full agreement with Real Madrid to sign teenage midfield talent Franco Mastantuono on a straight loan deal for the upcoming season.

Following a decisive round of discussions, the final “here we go” has been officially confirmed by football journalist Fabrizio Romano, establishing that the 18-year-old Argentine playmaker will spend the next ten months developing his skills in Italy.

Terms of the agreement confirmed

The deal between the two clubs was officially finalised, concluding weeks of speculation regarding the young player’s short-term future.

The agreed framework is a standard, temporary loan move with absolutely no option or clause for Fiorentina to buy the player permanently.

Real Madrid have been completely clear that they maintain full long-term faith in Mastantuono’s potential and simply want him to gain consistent, high-level competitive experience in Europe.

Mastantuono will return directly to Real Madrid in June 2027 to reintegrate into the Spanish squad ahead of their subsequent campaigns.

At this point, it is unclear as to what percentage of the player’s portion of his weekly wages Fiorentina will cover during his stay at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

But the player is likely to fly to Italy to undergo his routine medical examinations and sign his contract papers imminently.

European Path chosen over River Plate return

The completion of the loan move to Florence represents a compromise between the player’s situation and Real Madrid’s developmental roadmap.

Mastantuono had experienced a heavily disrupted debut campaign in Spain following his high-profile transfer from River Plate.

Because the summer additions of stars like Bernardo Silva made senior minutes at the Bernabeu even more difficult to secure, an immediate loan became a necessity.

While the young midfielder had initially expressed a personal preference to return home to River Plate, Real Madrid’s technical staff strongly insisted on a European destination.

The Merengues believe that competing in a demanding league like Serie A would help him adapt much faster to European football.

By joining Fiorentina, Mastantuono follows directly in the footsteps of fellow Real Madrid youth defender Victor Valdepenas, who also completed a move to the Florence-based club this summer, albeit on a permanent transfer.
