Fabrizio Romano confirmed late on Tuesday evening that Liverpool had finally reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign young starlet Florian Wirtz.
It sees Erik ten Hag hit with an early – albeit expected – blow just weeks into his tenure, with the board now having to navigate the exit of their most influential player.
In turn, Manchester United fans are crossing their fingers that their ex-manager will use some of the funds from the £127 million deal to reunite with his former players whom he’d signed at Old Trafford.

For example, Leverkusen have been heavily linked with Antony from the moment Ten Hag took the reins, primarily because he was the coach to initially push for Antony’s arrival in M16 and persisted with him playing a key role despite his substandard form in his first season.
The Brazilian international has also been put up for sale by United this summer, as his revitalised run of form with Real Betis was ultimately deemed not enough for him to be granted another chance at proving himself under Ruben Amorim. Instead, the club are hoping to recuperate around £30-35m from his exit.
He isn’t the only Red to have caught Ten Hag’s eye, either. Numerous outlets have verified that Leverkusen are indeed among Alejandro Garnacho’s suitors ever since it was announced that he and United would be parting ways when the window reopens.
One report in Germany suggested Antony had been considered a more feasible target for the Bundesliga outfit to pursue due to Garnacho’s £60-70m valuation, but with a healthy cash injection about to hit Leverkusen chiefs’ transfer kitty, they may as well go all out for Wirtz’s successor/s with the targets they actually want.
