Hervé Renard will remain Saudi Arabia head coach and lead the team at the World Cup in the United States from 11 June to 19 July, his second with the country and third in succession, having led Morocco in 2018.

According to L'Équipe, Saudi outlets had reported his dismissal during the international break before Tuesday’s 1-2 friendly defeat by Serbia. The Frenchman had also been weighing up the future of the arrangement, but he will stay in post.

Renard is close to the federation president, in whom he has great trust, and has discussed his position with senior officials.

In the United States he will try to guide Saudi Arabia through a strong Group H that includes Uruguay, Spain and Cape Verde.

His contract is due to end after the tournament.
