Chelsea have just been beaten 1-0 at home by Newcastle, a massive blow to their Champions League hopes.

And yet, we’re all talking about something ridiculous and trivial: the pre-match huddle the players did on the centre circle. They’ve been doing it for a couple of months now, and so far all that’s happened is other teams getting cross. But today referee Paul Tierney was in the middle of it, and stood his ground, creating a truly bizarre spectacle.

Rosenior claims he will speak to refereeing body about huddle incident

Speaking about it post game, manager Liam Rosenior said he was going to complain to the refereeing body PGMOL about what had happened:

“I’ll be honest I didn’t speak to Paul today or his officials but I’ll be speaking to the PGMOL and the refs to try and get an understanding of why that happened today,” Rosenior said.

“We were told, in the rule book, it’s about timing. I just want to find a solution to this. We’re talking about something that’s nowhere near important as what happened.”

Here’s an idea Liam, instead of complaining to PGMOL, how about you tell your players to NOT form their  huddle around a referee? That might be an easier way of sorting the situation.

This whole thing started as farcical and is somehow becoming even more stupid.

In other news…

Rosenior also claimed that the goal his team conceded had been down to a “tactical issue” and lamented how all the mistakes his team were making were leading to goals.
