Leeds United manager Daniel Farke says new signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin has “all the skills you would like your striker to have” as he backed the forward to reach his best form at Elland Road.
The 28-year-old striker completed his move on Friday, linking up with Leeds United as Farke’s side prepares for Monday night’s Premier League return against Calvert-Lewin’s former club, Everton.
“Dominic is a proven player at Premier League level” Farke said. “As a newly promoted side, it’s important with all new signings, that they have already delivered at the top level, are still at a good age and on the way up in their career – Dominic ticked all these.”
Calvert-Lewin made 239 top-flight appearances for Everton, scoring over 57 goals, and has 11 England caps with four international goals to his name.
“We don’t have to speak about his quality – he has all the skills you would like your striker to have.” Farke added.
“Yes, his last few seasons have been interrupted, but it’s a chance for him to revive his career here and reach those heights again, where he was outstanding in the Premier League,” Farke said. “It’s also a big chance for us, as we get a proven Premier League player.
“The key for him is not to be over-motivated. We’ll build his fitness step by step, so that he finds the confidence in his body and his rhythm. If we do, he’ll show that he can be outstanding for us.”
