With less than a year remaining on his contract with Hamburger SV, Daniel Heuer Fernandes says that his future is currently not his top priority.
Rather, he wants to apply full focus to performing on the pitch to secure another season in Germany's top-flight.
“We’ve only just reached the sixth matchday, and there’s still a long way to go to achieve our goal – that’s where my focus is right now," Heuer Fernandes told Sport Bild.
"Of course, I can see my future in Hamburg. I’m happy to be here, which is why HSV is always an obvious option for me."
“I don’t currently see a contract extension as a top priority, especially since it hasn’t been discussed with the club yet," he conitnued.
During the summer, Heuer Fernandes received fresh competition from Daniel Peretz, who arrived on loan from Bayern Munich. Asked if he was surprised by the signing, the 32-year-old said:
“No, because in conversations I was told that a new goalkeeper would be coming. With Matze and Tom (Matheo Raab and Tom Mickel), two experienced keepers left the club in the summer. Competition is important – it pushes everyone, raising the standard in training and for the entire team.”
So far, Heuer Fernandes has managed to stay ahead of Peretz in the pecking order.
