Ronald Koeman held a press conference almost immediately after his Netherlands squad for the World Cup was announced. Amongst those included was West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, who makes the team for the first time. Speaking to the press, Koeman explained that he had wanted to bring the West Ham winger into the set up back in March, but Summerville had been injured.
As quoted by ESPN, Koeman said of his decision to include the West Ham winger ‘I like those kinds of players; players who are reliable in their football. His work ethic is also very good‘. The 24-year-old now has a chance to win his first cap for the Dutch national team at the World Cup, although Koeman will likely need to give him opportunities during the friendlies against Algeria and Uzbekistan before the team kicks off their group stage campaign against Japan.
Summerville suffered relegation on the final day of the Premier League season with West Ham. The former Feyenoord winger joined West Ham from Leeds United in 2024. Since then he has played 56 games for the side, scoring eight goals. This season has been his best for West Ham despite their relegation, with Summerville providing the side with seven goals and three assists in 34 games. His best season to date was with Leeds during the 2023/2024 EFL Championship campaign, with the Dutchman scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in 49 games.
