OM must rethink their starting XI for Wednesday’s Coupe de France quarter-final against Toulouse, with Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg suspended and Quinten Timber and Amine Gouiri doubtful after the 3-2 win over Lyon.
According to L'Équipe, Habib Beye will have only one proper training session, on Tuesday afternoon, before the 21:00 kick-off, and the cup now sits alongside the push for a Ligue 1 podium as a priority.
Beye told his players to savour Sunday’s victory then quickly reset, stressing the need to come back down and work to be at their best on Wednesday.
Höjbjerg’s absence was expected. Timber dislocated a shoulder in the first half against Lyon, the staff put it back in place but the pain was too strong for him to continue, so he was withdrawn at the break. A return so soon would be surprising, and he reappeared post-match in a tracksuit with his right arm in a sling.
Gouiri arrived at the stadium below par and watched from the stands, with Beye saying he was not in a condition to play. The staff have not ruled out a return by Wednesday.
Beye remained upbeat, saying solutions would be found and that the substitutes had real impact. Himad Abdelli and Tochukwu Nnadi offer midfield alternatives, while Geoffrey Kondogbia has not started back-to-back since September. Further forward, Ethan Nwaneri could come into contention, and it remains to be seen whether the cup rotation in goal, favouring Jeffrey De Lange, is maintained.
