VfB Stuttgart picked up three vital points in their bid to secure a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday, beating Slovan Bratislava 3-1 away from home.

Coach Sebastian Hoeness was delighted with what he described as a "deserved" win, although he would have liked to have seen his side score more goals.

“I'm very pleased with the first half. It was important to seize the initiative early on and to score the first and second goals. It would have been good to get a third one before half-time – we had the chances to do so," said Hoeness.

"The second half was more of a mixed bag because we didn't put away our chances. Overall, we deserved to win the game and so we did what we had to do tonight."

Deniz Undav, who set up Stuttgart's opener, had similar words to say.

“That was a thoroughly deserved win for us. Unfortunately, we didn’t score a third goal [sooner]. We need to work on our chance conversion," the striker emphasized.

“We didn’t give much away at the back. At the end of the day, our game plan paid off and we picked up three very important points away from home.”
