Ismael Saibari is one of FC Bayern’s most exciting new signings this summer. Although the Moroccan national team player is still working on his comeback, he has long since won over the club’s management in Munich. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has now revealed why the record champions immediately gave the green light for the 25-year-old’s transfer.

Saibari moved from PSV Eindhoven to the Isar for around 50 million euros. At the World Cup, the attacking player drew attention with strong performances and three goals before a torn muscle fiber sidelined him in the Round of 16 against Canada.

While FC Bayern is currently on a tour of Asia, Saibari is working on his return at Säbener Straße. Club officials expect the attacking player to be able to rejoin team training once the tour is over.

Hoeneß is enthusiastic about Saibari

Uli Hoeneß has now made it clear that he, too, was impressed by the new signing. Above all, his performances at the World Cup left a lasting impression on the honorary president.

“I really liked the player from Morocco at the World Cup,” Hoeneß explained.

At the same time, the 74-year-old admitted that Saibari hadn’t been at the top of his radar before the tournament. “I hadn’t really noticed him before.”

Ultimately, the assessments of the sporting leadership tipped the scales. Hoeneß revealed that both coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Max Eberl, as well as sporting director Christoph Freund, had recommended the attacking player internally at an early stage.

“Our people—the coach, Max (Eberl), and Christoph (Freund)—raved about him in the highest terms. So we were happy to agree in the advisory committee,” Hoeneß emphasized.

These statements show that Saibari’s transfer met with broad approval within Bayern’s leadership. The Moroccan is considered a versatile attacking player who can be deployed both in attacking midfield and in several positions up front.

The 25-year-old still has to be patient following his muscle injury. If his rehabilitation continues to go according to plan, Saibari is expected to rejoin the team after the Asian tour and train under Vincent Kompany for the first time during the final phase of preseason.
