Honduras victorious over Nicaragua to climb to first place in Group C | OneFootball

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – The Final Round of the Concacaf Qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with Honduras defeating Nicaragua 2-nil in Group C on Tuesday at Estadio Nacional José de la Paz Herrera in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Romell Quioto broke the deadlock in the 47’ to hand Honduras the lead, finding the back of the net from close range at the right post to capitalize on a delivery from Luis Palma.

Byron Bonilla took his chance in search of the equalizer for Nicaragua in the 79’, but his attempt from a free kick was just wide and high of the top right corner.

Alexy Vega doubled the lead for Los Catrachos in the 90’+1’ with a chipped finish over the keeper from inside the box.

Goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar had a solid performance leading the backline for Honduras as he posted a second clean sheet in the Final Round.

With the result, Honduras is now first in Group C with four points, while Nicaragua is fourth with one point.

Honduras will host Costa Rica in the next qualifying window on October 9. Nicaragua will look to bounce back when it plays at home against Haiti on the same day.
