Celtic’s new talisman Camilo Duran lit up Celtic Park on Wednesday night with two wonderful goals that were matched by the equally as impressive opener from Celtic’s goal a game midfielder Benjamin Nygren who looks even better than last season…

The Columbian goalscorer spoke at his mainstream media conference on Wednesday night after Celtic’s hugely impressive 3-0 win over Austrian Champions LASK and refused to accept that anything has been settled just yet despite the hoops taking that advantage into the decisive second leg.

“There are 90 minutes left,” Camilo said. “We haven’t won or achieved anything yet. I’m just happy for the work the team has done. Now we need to rest and continue working with humility.

“I know that the next game is waiting for us. We have to do our best over there, the same as we did on Wednesday night. With God’s help, we’ll get through this phase, which is what we obviously all want.”

Celtic Park on Champions League nights like Wednesday is unlike anything the Columbian forward has experienced previously in football, including across the Champions League matches with Qarabag last season.

“Scoring goals like those ones in this stadium, with all the people, with the place absolutely full, is so crazy,” the Celtic striker said. “I hope to keep scoring many more.

“It’s totally different to anything I experienced in the Champions League last season,” Duran revealed. “Celtic are the biggest club in Scotland. The stadium is always full, the fans are always supporting us and that can make a huge difference in the Champions League as well.”

Camilo and crucially his family are settling in well to their new surrounds in Glasgow and at Lennoxtown he has had tremendous support from the coaching staff and his teammates to make the transition to life in Scotland easy.

“Since I arrived, the coaches and the other players have helped me in the best way. That has helped me to adapt more easily and it’s been reflected in what I have done on the pitch,” Duran explained.

“My family, my parents and my wife [Valentina] were here with my daughter [Emily]. I just want to go up and give them a hug now. It has been a truly incredible night.

“My family is already happy here in Glasgow. If they’re happy, I’m happy. That’s why I’m so happy on the pitch right now.”

AS Martin O’Neill assembles his squad, something that will not be completed until Tuesday contest in Linz is out of the way, Duran has had to play on the right wing rather than as centre-forward in the Celtic team. That could change as the Celtic manager has plans to play him just behind Kasper Hogh in a front two and that’s some prospect for the Celts support to look forward to.

In the meantime Camilo plays wide right and clearly that doesn’t stop him getting his name of the scoresheet! “I’m happy. Everyone knows that I’m a striker, but I’m always going to be willing to play where the coach and the team need me. I’ll always give my best.”

Getting the job finished successfully against LASK will open the door to the Champions League proper and there will be a few potential signings who may wait until the result on Tuesday night is known before they make their decision to accept the Celtic offer.

For Camilo Duran though he is already fully committed to Celtic and can’t wait for what’s round the corner having had his first proper taste of Paradise on Wednesday night.

“Yes, I’m excited after seeing everyone do such a good job against LASK. Everyone ran for 90 minutes and gave their all. That’s how the Champions League matches are. Now we need to rest and think about the next match.

“We need to do a good job and move on to the next phase. Hopefully there is a lot more to come,” Duran added.

In Camilo Duran we clearly have a special player on our hands. When Martin O’Neill mentions a player and makes references to World class status then you know that Wednesday’s Man of the Match is going to be the new Celtic talisman and a huge favourite with the Celtic support.

Go get the job done on Tuesday Camilo!
