It is widely accepted that Ethan Mbappé (17) was a collateral victim of Kylian Mbappé’s (25) feud with Paris Saint-Germain. L’Équipe have revealed how that manifested itself towards the end of last season.

Kylian Mbappé informed PSG in February that he would leave the club to join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season. That is exactly what it did. That announcement soured the relationship between the two parties and they still remain in a legal dispute over unpaid wages.

The deteriorating relationship also had an effect on Ethan Mbappé’s future at the club. He had come through the ranks at the club and last season made his breakthrough into the first team. He had been in discussions over a contract renewal, until his brother’s falling out with the club.

Ultimately, that contract offer was not forthcoming and he instead left on a free transfer to join Lille OSC. L’Équipe have now revealed that Nasser Al-Khelaifi ordered manager Luis Enrique to leave Ethan Mbappé out of the matchday squad for the final game of last season, despite the title already being secured.

Upset by the turn of events, Ethan Mbappé was found in the dressing room in tears by his brother who then had what L’Équipe described as a “huge clash” with Al-Khelaifi on the subject.
