Andreas Schjelderup and Gianluca Prestianni have become central to a stylistic shift at Benfica under José Mourinho. The young wingers even came close to leaving in the winter window before asserting themselves.

According to A Bola, the pair have shown steady improvement under the Portuguese coach, even though Mourinho has stressed both still need to refine their finishing.

The head coach is unwilling to drop a high press in the opposition half, and the duo are catching up with those demands. They are moving closer to the benchmarks set by the Special One.

Schjelderup has had the most to prove after rumours placed him near the exit. His display against Real Madrid, allied to Mourinho’s guidance, gave the Norwegian a new lease of life.

This season for Benfica, Schjelderup, valued at 14 million euros, has made 28 competitive appearances, 15 in Liga Portugal Betclic, eight in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Supertaça. Across 1,384 minutes he has five goals and three assists.
