Barcelona are champions-elect in Spain after extending their dominance over Real Madrid at the weekend.
Hansi Flick’s side came from two goals down to beat their bitter rivals for a fourth time this season, in the process opening up a seven point lead at the top of LaLiga with three games remaining.
As a result, Barcelona can officially clinch the title as early tonight.
Technically, Real Madrid can still retain their La Liga crown. It is highly unlikely, but still possible as they need to pick up maximum points from their final games, giving them 84 and hope Barca lose at least twice.
This is because even if both clubs were to finish on 84 points, Barcelona would be crowned champions as tiebreakers in Spain are settled by the head-to-head record and both El Clasico meetings this season were won by the current league leaders.
Therefore, Los Blancos need to be perfect against Sevilla and Real Sociedad in addition to hoping for Barcelona to crumble at the final hurdle for a stunning LaLiga title twist.
Real Madrid were able to delay the title party, potentially only for 24 hours, after netting an injury-time winner against Real Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
The earliest Barcelona can be crowned champions of Spain is tonight, Thursday, May 14, 2025.
Victory away at local rivals Espanyol will get the job done. If Barca fail to win then the next possible opportunity to clinch the LaLiga title is at home to Sevilla on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
