Barcelona’s tie-up with Spotify as their primary sponsor has worked out better than expected, with the club not only gaining financially but also earning popularity worldwide by promoting top artists.
El Clasicos, in particular, have held a special role in the collaboration with the Swedish music streaming giant, picking a top-performing artist and dedicating the jersey of select Clasicos to them
So far, the likes of Drake, Rosalia, The Rolling Stones, Karol G, Coldplay, and Travis Scott have featured on the Barcelona jersey against Real Madrid, and later today, it will be Ed Sheeran.
Of the six times a top artist has replaced the Spotify logo for a special edition El Clasico jersey, Barcelona boasts a 50% record, having won three and lost three.
The first to collaborate was Drake, and as the supposed ‘curse’ had it at that time, the team lost to Real Madrid by a 3-1 margin with Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde, and Rodrygo scoring for Los Blancos and Ferran Torres scoring for Barcelona.
The next such event was at the Spotify Camp Nou when Barcelona beat Real Madrid in a special comeback win.
After going down through a Ronald Araujo own goal, Sergi Roberto netted an equaliser and Franck Kessie scored a last-gasp winner to help the game that was branded in Rosalia’s name.
The third Clasico with a collaboration saw The Rolling Stones feature on the jersey front.

On that night, Barcelona suffered a home defeat with a Jude Bellingham brace helping Real Madrid to a comeback win after Ilkay Gundogan’s early opener.
The next collaboration was with Karol G, and Barcelona suffered a second consecutive defeat as Bellingham again scored a decisive late winner for Real Madrid and helped Los Blancos to a 3-2 win, this time at Santiago Bernabeu.
Last season’s first Clasico, which was at the Bernabeu, saw Barcelona don Coldplay’s logo, and the result was a special one as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal all scored in a 4-0 win.
Of the three remaining Clasicos last season, only the league Clasico at Montjuic saw a collaboration.
It was Travis Scott who was promoted, as a flurry of first-half goals from Eric Garcia, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal saw the team turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 scoreline before half-time.
The game eventually ended 4-3 in Barcelona’s favour with Mbappe scoring a hat-trick.
Tonight, it will be Ed Sheeran on the Barcelona jersey, and it will be interesting to see which side of Barcelona’s neutral record sways on the night.
