The Dane has been interviewed over the possibility of taking over at Carrow Road.

Norwich City are one of a handful of Championship sides currently on the hunt for a new manager or head coach to take the reins at Carrow Road following Liam Manning's exit on Saturday evening.

The 40-year-old became the Canaries' third managerial casualty since May 2024 when the Norfolk-based side were beaten by Leeds United in the Championship play-off semi-finals, with a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City proving to be the final nail in his coffin.

It comes as no real surprise to many, with the Yellows currently positioned in 23rd after taking just nine points from their opening 15 encounters, as they are currently in the thick of a dire run which has seen no wins accrued since August 30th when they defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at Ewood Park.

As such, Mark Attanasio and controversial sporting director, Ben Knapper, are hoping to swiftly end their latest managerial search, with a plethora of names already linked to the post, with many also seeing their names crop up in shortlists to take over at divisional rivals such as Middlesbrough, Swansea City and Southampton.

This includes the likes of Gary O'Neil, Russell Martin and Will Still, with the former duo of the three having previously featured for Norwich in their playing days, whilst Celtic coach and another ex-City player, Mark Fotheringham, has also been mentioned.

However, there has been a fresh update on Wednesday morning regarding a name who, previously, wasn't in the offing, and Norwich supporters will certainly be encouraged if his previous club's supporters' verdict are anything to go by.

As per John Percy of The Telegraph, the Canaries hierarchy have interviewed Jon Dahl Tomasson about potentially taking up the vacancy at Carrow Road.

Talks were held between club representatives and the Dane on Tuesday, according to the aforementioned update, with the Championship's second-bottom club hopeful of finalising an appointment before their upcoming trip to Birmingham City on 22nd November.

The former Newcastle United and AC Milan striker is no stranger to the second tier either, having previously held the position of Blackburn Rovers head coach between June 2022 and February 2024, when he departed the East Lancashire side by mutual consent.

Afterward, he was manager of the Swedish national team until last month, before being dismissed after a dismal start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers campaign.

It's fair to say that Tomasson's time at Ewood Park was extremely mixed and tumultuous, though, and whilst his time ended on a sour note and a poor run of form, the opinions which Rovers supporters held at the time should offer those at Carrow Road plenty of encouragement.

During his time in the North West, Tomasson had Rovers firmly in the mix for a play-off bid in the 2022/23 campaign, before missing out on goal difference after a dramatic 4-3 win at Millwall on the final day.

Indeed, Tomasson also oversaw the development of fan favourites such as Ben Brereton Diaz, Sammie Szmodics and Adam Wharton, with the latter now a staple in the England squad.

As such, his departure 21 months ago was met with huge frustration, largely towards the Blackburn hierarchy, although supporters would offer extremely fond words towards JDT.

One in particular labelled him as the club's best leader since Sir Kenny Dalglish, who won the Premier League with Blackburn in 1994/95.

Another praised the Dane for his connection with the supporters, as well as his personal ambition, which wasn't necessarily always matched at board level.

One Rovers fan kept it short and sweet when outlining that Tomasson didn't get what he deserved.

Another wasn't surprised in the slightest that Tomasson decided to call it quits at Ewood Park after 18 months.

However, one supporter wasn't quite of the same opinion, although confessed that it was of their opinion that he was also let down by the Blackburn board, particularly in the transfer market.

Blackburn Rovers controversy could serve as a warning for Jon Dahl Tomasson amid Norwich City links

Although the two sets of circumstances are extremely different, the controversy which surrounded Blackburn during his tenure and at the time of his departure may serve as a warning to Tomasson amid these fresh developments.

Norwich, of course, have continuously backed Manning and his predecessor, Johannes Hoff Thorup, in the transfer market.

However, the main frustrations at present have been showcased towards Knapper, who has now misfired with two managerial appointments that have continued Norwich's downward trajectory.

Supporters will, no doubt, be encouraged by the aforementioned verdicts left by Rovers supporters though, but may also be wary of how Tomasson's spell in charge of Sweden ended, making it yet another intriguing topic of discussion amid the ongoing managerial search.
