Chris Sutton has heaped praise on Norwich City's new signing, Mohamed Toure, who scored a hat-trick in Tuesday's 3-0 win at Oxford United.

Toure enjoyed a strong Canaries debut last Saturday, scoring in a 2-0 triumph over Blackburn Rovers as a second-half substitute.

The 21-year-old was then handed his first Championship start by Philippe Clement on Tuesday, largely thanks to an injury suffered by fellow striker Jovon Makama.

Toure grabbed that opportunity with both hands, scoring his first hat-trick in English football by the 47th minute, before being replaced by Mathias Kvistgaarden on the hour mark.

Toure has now notched a remarkable return of four goals in two Norwich appearances, and the Canaries will be delighted with their decision to sign the youngster from Danish club Randers in the winter transfer window.

Clement will hope that the Australia international can continue his goalscoring exploits in the FA Cup, when this side take on West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.

Meanwhile, former Norwich striker Chris Sutton wrote on X on Tuesday: "Absolutely brilliant Mohamed Toure."

The Canaries are now seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone, thanks to their successive victories over Blackburn and Oxford.

Toure has played an instrumental role in those efforts, and Clement revealed to BBC Sport that the 21-year-old is learning from some of the best strikers in the world: "Mo is still a young lad with a lot of potential and several things to improve, but he is learning fast.

"This week we showed him several images of (Erling) Haaland and how he creates space for himself, as well as (Romelu) Lukaku and how he uses his body.

"It's important to have a striker who can find the spaces in behind and is lethal in front of goal. The football we have played the last couple of weeks means that whoever plays there will have a nice time because all the things around them are much better than a few months ago."

Norwich City continue to thrive without Josh Sargent

Canaries striker Josh Sargent was eyed by Toronto when the transfer window was open, but has instead remained at Carrow Road.

However, amid the speculation surrounding his future, Sargent has not made a Championship appearance since his side were beaten 2-0 by Stoke City on 4 January.

The USA international has been a class act for Norwich over the years, and scored 15 goals, while also producing five assists, in 32 second-tier outings last term.

Clement's men have coped incredibly well in his absence, though, winning five of their last six Championship games, including triumphs over promotion chasers Wrexham and Coventry City.

Makama has been a reliable striker for the Canaries this season, scoring 10 goals in 28 league appearances, and he also scored an FA Cup hat-trick in a 5-1 win over League Two outfit Walsall.
